GMA-7 Announces “Pinoy Doctor Who,” Casts Vic Sotto

GMA 7 has just announced that they have recently acquired the rights to produce a local version of the hugely popular British science fiction show, Doctor Who.

“It is an honor to make a local adaptation of this long-running TV show,” GMA 7 Chairman Felipe Gozon said. “There is nothing as British as Doctor Who, and we will strive our best to make the local version as Pinoy as possible.”

Aiming to make Pinoy Doctor Who as Filipino as possible, some of the rumored changes to the mythology includes having the TARDIS be a flying nipa hut that is bigger on the inside known as KUBO (Kinetic Ultrasonic Betatron Oxcart), making the Doctor a descendant of Jose Rizal and a Time Lady who got stranded in the 1800’s, and the first episode will have the Doctor (played by Vic Sotto) and his magical wife Susan (played by Kristine Hermosa and will be replaced by whoever wants to be the Doctor’s wife eventually) will be stranded in EDSA while they deal with the evil Daleks (reimagined as wizards who can turn helpless people into goats). There will also be a bigger focus on slapstick and romance to make Pinoy Doctor Who appeal to a Filipino audience.

Joey De Leon, who is a known Whovian, is writing the first episode which will air September 2015.

UPDATE: The show has been cancelled as he was caught trying to use the KUBO to travel back in time to scout for his next wife. Yikes.
