KimTiu 2015 Emmy Predictions Part 2: Comedy

Comedy Series

comedy

  • Louie
  • Modern Family
  • Parks and Recreation
  • Silicon Valley
  • Transparent
  • Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
  • Veep

Sean: “Transparent could win based on its sensitive take on trans issues, which have come to the forefront over the last two years. The show’s chances are further bouyed by strong critical support, that the show’s already reaped a number of awards in the Creative Arts Emmys, and that it’s a freshman series. However, Veep improved on an already strong series by shaking up its status quo yet again and succeeding, and featured some of its sharpest writing.”

Should Win: Veep

Will Win: Transparent

Kim: “Except for Modern Family, all these other shows feature sharp writing and strong comedic performances. As much as I believe in Transparent’s social value and the love for Parks/Louie/Veep, I’m still a bitter cynic who thinks that Family’s dynasty will continue.”

Should Win: Transparent/Parks and Recreation

Will Win: Modern Family

Lead Actor

transparent

  • Anthony Anderson as Andre Johnson, Sr. on Black-ish
  • Don Cheadle as Marty Kaan on House of Lies
  • Louis C.K. as Louie on Louie
  • Will Forte as Phil “Tandy” Miller on The Last Man on Earth
  • Matt LeBlanc as Himself on Episodes
  • William H. Macy as Frank Gallagher on Shameless
  • Jeffrey Tambor as Maura Pfefferman on Transparent

Sean: “It’s no contest at this point: Jeffrey Tambor will win. Tambor gave the buzziest performance in his category, with his sensitive, heartbreaking and hilarious turn in Transparent. Much of the acclaim for Transparent can be traced to Tambor’s career-best performance, and it’ll be downright baffling if he doesn’t win.”

Should Win: Jeffrey Tambor

Will Win: Jeffrey Tambor

Kim: “Jeffrey Tambor. There’s no doubt about it. His role here is even better than what he did for Arrested Development.”

Should Win: Jeffrey Tambor

Lead Actress

Comedy Actress HBO

  • Edie Falco as Jackie Peyton on Nurse Jackie
  • Lisa Kudrow as Valerie Cherish on The Comeback
  • Julia Louis-Dreyfus as President Selina Meyer on Veep
  • Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope on Parks and Recreation
  • Amy Schumer as Amy on Inside Amy Schumer
  • Lily Tomlin as Frankie Bergstein on Grace and Frankie

Sean: “Julia Louis-Drefyus has enough momentum in the Emmys that she could win even if she had an off-season. Fortunately, she’s been as great as usual, with her tight control over Meyer’s rage, strengths, and vulnerability, as well as her continued mastery over the sharpest and most biting insults on TV today. Regretedbly, her win means that Amy Poehler will end her fantastic run on Parks and Recreation without a win, which is a pity since Poehler is long overdue. Lisa Kudrow also deserves acknowledgement for her fully realised turn in The Comeback, as she so fully committed to the role that she could make you forget Phoebe Buffay.”

Should Win: Lisa Kudrow/Amy Poehler

Will Win: Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Kim: “In a perfect world, JLD and Amy Poehler would both win. Both shows are some of the funniest political satire sitcoms ever produced. I agree regarding Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ momentum and chances.”

Should Win: Amy Poehler

Will Win: Julia Louis-Dreyfus
