Surviving One Year Without ‘Doctor Who’

Big Finish

Yes, there’s a Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Doctor crossover.

If there’s one supplemental media that I could not recommend enough, it would be the Big Finish audios.  I acknowledge the importance of the novels and the comics within the Doctor Who universe, but the audio dramas feature the original actors reprising their roles, filling up gaps in the continuity, and giving us a steady supply of new “classic” stories. Aside from mainstays Peter Davison, Colin Baker, and Sylvester McCoy, Big Finish also managed to have Tom Baker reprise his role as the Fourth Doctor. They’ve also featured Paul McGann in their most popular stories, and if you enjoyed his performance in the TV movie, you will love him in the audios. If you’ve seen The Night of the Doctor, you must have noticed McGann list a number of names before he regenerated. Those are his Big Finish companions, and it was Moffat’s way of maintaining a link between Big Finish and the TV show.

DON’T MISS:  Doctor Who: Jodie Whittaker is Magnificent as the Thirteenth Doctor

That’s not all. Big Finish has also recently acquired the license for New Who material, and they have released audios featuring River Song, The War Doctor (set in the Time War!), and a new series featuring David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor and Catherine Tate’s Donna Noble will be coming soon.

So, Whovians, how are you going to get by and survive this gap year? Which supplemental media will you get started on first? What’s your favorite novel/comic book/audio story? Let’s talk about it in the comments!
