Be A Part of Something Larger: The World Magic Cup Qualifiers

Things to see in the Multiverse

If you’ve ever been to a Gran Prix, you know that there’s more to do than just sitting down with your cards and playing your heart out. This month’s World Magic Cup Qualifiers turned out to be quite a treat as it did not have only tournament area but also featured an Artists Alley, something I was particularly excited for but I’ll expound on that later.

Large events like these are truly worth going to particularly because most Magic players tend to bring their collections and cards for sale, so there’s a lot of trading to be had. If you’re looking for a particular card for your EDH/Commander deck, you’ll most likely find that card here. If you’re looking for strong cards for your constructed deck, the sellers will be sure to meet the demand. If you’re like me and just want to foil out your Magic drafting Cube, then you’ll most likely find some of these shiny cards sitting snug in somebody’s binder waiting for you to take them home.

My favorite part of the experience was the Artist Alley where I got to meet some of the artists that I follow on social media. Here you can find prints of Fantasy art and Magic: The Gathering related art and they are quite fantastic. Art ranging from different styles and available as prints of varying sizes as well ask custom tokens that can be used when playing Magic: The Gathering.
I even got to talk to some of them for a bit for advice also to get an art critique from Miguel Mercado! I’m sure you have most likely seen some of his very popular Overwatch art thats been making the rounds on social media platforms and has been featured multiple times in different website articles and even shared by Blizzard entertainment itself! I highly encourage supporting our local artists.
Many of their pieces are worth owning and even putting up for display. We might even get custom playmats and deck boxes on future events. If you want details of the wonderful artists who shared their art with us, I will post contact details at the end of the article.

Richer from the Experience

When the rounds are about to start and the judges announce that pairings are posted, you make your way through a sea of people. You find your name, who your opponent will be and your table number. Every round, you meet a different personality, you might duel someone older than you or someone who hasn’t even gone to high school and each experience is unique. Meeting players and sharing your experience or talking about strategies on how to play different match-ups is a great way to meet new people and level up your game at the same time. This I feel is the complete social Magic experience.
