Disney Studios can probably teach a master class on how to construct romantic scenes. My next pick predictably comes from the Golden Age of Disney, featuring their very own superman, Hercules!
After defeating the monstrous Titans near the end of the movie, a severely weakened Hercules has to overcome one last obstacle in order to earn his happy ending. He must risk his mortal life to save Megara’s soul. His selfless act restores the immortality that was stolen from him as a child, allowing him to snatch his love from oblivion.
The day is finally won. Hercules, now a full fledged god, is welcomed to Olympus, abode of the Greek Pantheon. As he ascends the stairs into the arms of his parents and his brethren, he casts a quick glance of his shoulders. He sees a sheepish Meg, waving her last goodbyes to “Herc.” He sighs and declares to his father Zeus:
Hercules sacrificed the one thing he’s been yearning for his entire life. He went the distance and faced the world’s harms so he could return to the place of his birth and the family he lost. But all that would mean leaving the most important person in his life. Herc made his choice and gave up his birthright. He finally found the place where he belongs – not in the halls of Olympus but in the arms of his love, Megara.
